The Hide | AJ Shortlist
Perched on top of the Former Leather Market on Weston Street, the Hide proposes a reinstatement of lost craft in the area. Originally owned by The Master, Wardens and Commonalty of the Art or Mistery of Tanners the building was used to check the quality of tanning within a 30 mile radius of Bermondsey. In the 19th Century the building became the leather Market and wool Exchange which was made up of numerous small and large firms working within the trade and manufacturing of leather products right up until the early 90s when the remnant of the leather trade in Bermondsey came to an end.
